Lodge Accommodation
Chundukwa
Tree Lodge - Situated about 30kms upstream from Victoria
Falls on the Zambian side of the Zambezi, Chundukwa have created
unique tree houses, which blend naturally with the Waterberry trees
that adorn the riverbanks. Each Tree house is complete with private
facilities including shower and flush toilet and breathtaking views
of the Zambezi River, Chundu island opposite and the Zambezi National
park across the River. The Lodge is in a game area and sightings
of hippo, elephant and other game are a common occurrence.
Accommodation is simple and rustic, but comfortable - Chundukwa
does not try to be a luxury lodge.
A stay at Chundukwa tree Lodge is the best way to discover Victoria
Falls, its wildlife and adventures. We recommend that two to three
nights are spent in camp during which time canoe trips, horse trails,
walks, visits to the Victoria Falls, visits to our local market
and local park can be taken.
For the adventurous it is possible
to do white water rafting on the lower Zambezi (rated the best in
the world), bungi jumps off the Victoria Falls bridge, microlight
or helicopter "flights of angels" over the Falls and elephant-
back safaris into the bush.
Chobe Safari
Lodge
Situated in Kasane, Botswana, less than 100 kilometres west of Victoria
Falls, and just 5 minutes drive from the Chobe National Park, Chobe
Safari Lodge overlooks the perennial Chobe River and Caprivi floodplains
There is a variety of accommodation on offer. There are luxury en-suite
River Rooms, the new and highly recommended Safari Rooms, and the
thatched, and more traditional, rondavels. All rooms have en-suite
bathrooms, with the Safari and River rooms also offering air-conditioning.
The rondavels are independently positioned, and are equipped with
ceiling fans.
The Lodge offers a choice of two Restaurants: The Table d'hote Restaurant
offering a range of International and Local dishes and the Buffet
has an impressive choice of BBQ meats, salads and a range of other
dishes. A large and varied breakfast buffet is offered in the terrace
restaurant, with a choice of a Continental or fully cooked English
breakfast. Lunch time snacks can be eaten at the Cocktail Bar, or
can be enjoyed whilst you are relaxing around the pool.
The Sedudu Sunset Bar overlooks Sedudu Island and is a perfect venue
from which to marvel at the magnificent African sunset, whilst enjoying
the sights and sounds of nature. At night, guests can also dine
under the stars by the light of a hurricane lamp, or on the terrace
restaurant overlooking the waters of the Chobe River.
The Chobe floodplain is renowned for its concentration of buffalo
and elephant and the late afternoon in particular, provides spectacular
viewing. Safari activities at Chobe Safari Lodge include 4x4 Game
Drives, boat cruises along the Chobe River, nature walks that take
in the Zambian side of the River, sun downer cruises, fishing and
trips to Victoria Falls. The National Park is the best place in
the world to see the majestic African elephant for it is home to
the world's largest elephant population. Game drives into the Chobe
National Park depart three times daily. Alternatively, choose a
full day's game drive, including picnic lunch. Cruises, led by expert
guides are available throughout the day to suit individual needs.
Cruises into the National Park are a wonderful and somewhat different
way of viewing the game. At dry season in particular, the wildlife
congregate in their thousands at the water's edge to quench their
thirst.
The Camp is located on Pom Pom Island in a private concession situated
in the heart of the Okavango Delta and on the head waters of the
Xudum river system - Pom Pom is a permanent water camp offering
water activities throughout the year.
Pom Pom Camp
- The area lies on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve
and offers superb Okavango scenery and a true Okavango wilderness
experience.
Accommodation consists of nine luxury safari tents in true traditional
safari style, all with full en-suite semi open ablution facilities.
The main building is attractively designed and constructed of thatch
and canvas and comprises lounge, dining, bar and pool areas, as
well as a gift shop and the boma area.
Activities include game drives, night drives, mokoro trips and walks.
Game viewing is of the best offered in the Delta. Guests have the
opportunity of seeing all major predators, a variety of big game
and plains game, as well as an abundance of bird life.
Guests can choose from game drives, nature walks, fishing and mokoro
excursions. Night drives in open 4x4 Land Cruisers are also permitted
as the Camp is outside the Moremi Game Reserve. Hippo and Crocodile
are found in the deeper lagoons in the area. Birding enthusiasts
will enjoy sighting Pells Fishing Owl, African Fish Eagle, Giant
Eagle Owl and White Backed Vultures.
Makgadikgadi Camp - Ntwetwe Pan and Sua Pan, together
with numerous smaller pans, form the Makgadikgadi Pans system. The
pans are the remnants of the once great Lake Makgadikgadi: 80,000
square kilometres in extent, and up to 30 metres deep, this was
the largest inland sea in Africa. In the wet season, this vast area
of salt pans interspersed with low-lying grass islands is the destination
of herds of migrating zebra. It has an unspoilt beauty unlike any
other part of Africa.
Situated on Hyena Island, Makgadikgadi is a real bush camp offering
the very essence of Africa. Accommodation is in comfortable twin-bedded
cottage tents secluded among palms and acacias. All tents have en-suite
bathrooms and there is a dip pool for refuge from the midday heat.
The traditionally built mess, with its thatched roof and open fireplace,
provides the perfect ambience for relaxation at the end of the day.
Around the flickering fire the day's events are recounted, whilst
your host conjures up the spirit of Africa. Legends of the bush
gently unfold, punctuated by calls of the wild from the surrounding
Makgadikgadi Pans.
An early breakfast precedes your day's exploration of the pans.
In the evening, after aperitifs, your hosts invite you to join them
at an elegant table for a three course dinner, combining international
cuisine with the best of African fare and accompanied by elegant
wines from South Africa.
Kubu Island
Resting in the southern tip of Sua Pan, this small rocky outcrop
was once an island in the great Lake Makgadikgadi. Stunted baobab
trees and the ruins of unexplained stone walls lend a mystical aspect:
Kubu Island has a magic that touches every visitor.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
The largest game reserve in the world, the Central Kalahari encompasses
some of the hottest and most inhospitable areas in Botswana. In
this seemingly limitless expanse of scrub desert and pans, you will
encounter animals and plants that are specially adapted to survive
in such harsh conditions.
Nxai Pans and Baines' Baobabs
Nxai Pan lies to the north of the Makgadikgadi Pans area, on the
migration route of the great herds: a wide, grass-covered pan dotted
with umbrella thorn trees. With its bountiful wildlife, the area
provides excellent game viewing
opportunities.
Just to the east of Kudiakam Pan, and south of Nxai Pan, is an impressive
group of
baobab trees, standing on the pioneers' route to the swamps of the
Okavango Delta. First painted by Thomas Baines, and inscribed with
his name on 22nd May 1862, the
trees are known as Baines' Baobabs.
