5 / 7 Garden Route Safari - Luxury Accommodated

 

Day 1 – Cape Town to Hermanus.

We take a leisurely drive along the coastal route to Hermanus.
Hermanus is known as the best land based whale watching spot in the world (June – Dec).
The day is spent exploring the towns markets, beaches and shops.
There are many optional activities available depending on the weather and personal tastes, ranging from Shark cage Diving, kayaking, boat cruise, wine tasting at award winning vineyards and much more.
After sundowners we head into town to enjoy dinner at one of the many local restaurants..
Accommodation– Luxury guest house.

 

Day 2 – Hermanus to Wilderness.

We leave Hermanus and drive towards the Garden Route.
In the afternoon we arrive at in Wilderness, a stunning coastal village, with a lagoon on on side and the spectacular beaches on the other.
Canoeing on the lagoon is possible in the afternoon, and is a great way to experience the wide variety of birdlife the area has to offer.
Accommodation –Luxury Guest House. Meals – Breakfast, lunch

 

Day 3 – Wilderness to Tsitsikamma National Park

We depart Wilderness and travel a short distance along the Garden Route to Tsitsikamma National Park.
En route we stop at the Knysna Elephant Park, where you can get an interesting insight into the lives of the last remaining Knysna elephants. There is an opportunity to feed and touch these magnificent animals. From here we stop at Plettenberg Bay, where you have a choice to visit either the Birds of Eden project, or Monkeyland.The afternoon drive is a short one through Tsitsikamma Forest to the Storms River Mouth, a beautiful restcamp between the mountain and the sea.
A boat ride, walks or just enjoying the scenery are all great ways to spend the late afternoon.
Optional extra – The worlds highest bungy jump!
Accommodation – Luxury seaside timber cottages.
Meals – Breakfast, lunch

 

Day 4 – TsiTsikamma to Addo National Elephant Park.

Continuing up the Garden Route we arrive at Jefferys Bay where we turn inland towards Addo .
We settle into our lodge and after lunch we explore the Addo Elephant National Park.you are collected by guides from Scotia Safaris who will then take you on an afternoon and night drive.
Optional Activity - An afternoon/night drive with Scotia Lion Safari is highly recommended. They guarantee lion sightings and offer the best chance in Africa to view lions hunting at night.

Meals – Breakfast, lunch

 

Day 5 – Addo to Knysna

The morning is spent driving in the Addo Elephant Park looking for game including lion, elephant, rhino, hyena, leopard and many different antelope and bird species.
We then drop you in Port Elizabeth for lunch.
This is the end of the 5 Day Safari.

For those enjoying the 7 Day safari we continue back down the Garden Route to Knysna.
The afternoon is spent at your leisure in Knysna.
In the evening we board a luxury yacht for sundowners and dinner.
Accommodation – Luxury guesthouse
Meals – Breakfast.

 

Day 6 – Knysna to Oudtshoorn.

We head inland towards Oudtshoorn, passing through the amazing Outeniqua Pass. Once at Oudtshoorn we have a full day of activities including an ostrich show farm, (where you have the chance to ride an ostrich), the Cango Ranch (where you can have photos taken with baby cheetah for a small fee) and the world famous cango dripstone caves.

Day 7 – Cape Town.

We continue along the Route 62 (the worlds longest wine route) stopping at 2 wine estates for tasting and shopping.
After lunch at a wine estate we head back to Cape Town arriving in the late afternoon.

Accommodated Tours


All our accommodation has been carefully selected through rigorous research and testing.

In safari locations we use a combination of luxury permanent tents and private luxury bungalows.
The luxury tents are part canvas, part permanent structure, with en suite bathrooms (the tents sleep 2 persons in twin beds).
Bungalows sleep between 2 and 4 persons, and are spacious, comfortable and well equipped.

In non safari locations we use a combination of private bungalows, log cabins and guest house accommodation.

We do not use backpacker accommodation for our accommodated tours!


Food on tour


All food on tour, (with the exception of restaurant evenings) will be prepared by your guides.

Breakfast consists of fruit, a selection of cereals, toast and jams, yoghurts, cheese, cold meats and fruit juice, with tea and coffee readily available.
Every other day we will prepare a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage or similar.

Lunch consists of sandwiches, cold meats and cheese, and a selection of salads.

Depending on the location at the time (and weather) dinner is usually prepared around the fire.
Typical menus include :-
braai - chops, wors, baked potatoes, baked onions and a mixed salad.
Potjie - Traditional South Africa stew cooked in a large iron pot over coals.
Oriental stir fry.
Butternut squash stuffed with vegetables and mozzarella cheese, on the braai

We do cater for vegetarians but please let us know in advance so that we can plan a suitable menu for you.

If you have any special food requirements or allergies then also let us know well in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.
