Garden Route Safari – 7 Days (TA 7GR)

The 7-day Garden Route safari includes the greatest highlights this area has to offer whilst staying in specially chosen locations.
We meander through small fishing villages and admire the spectacular Cango Caves before continuing further along the coast and exploring our magnificent indigenous forests that sweep down from the mountains to touch the shoreline. Our tour departs from and returns to Cape Town, traversing some of the province’s most beautiful routes.

Day 1 — Hermanus
We take a short drive to Hermanus, a charming coastal town renowned as the best land-based whale-watching venue in the world (Jun-Dec). The day is spent exploring the beaches and craft markets, as well as the spectacular cliff paths that run the full length of the town — some 10km — which are maintained by residents and are the only such feature in the country.
Optional activities include – Shark cage diving, sea kayaking, boat cruises and much more.
Accommodation: Guesthouse
Meals: None

Day 2 – Wilderness
We drive along the scenic Garden Route to the town of Wilderness, stopping for photo opportunities along the way.
Accommodation: Timber cabins on the river
Meals: Breakfast

Day 3 — Tsitsikamma National Park
From Wilderness we head down the Garden Route to the beautiful seaside town of Knysna, famous, among many others, for its cultivated oysters. After sightseeing in Knysna we move on to the Knysna Elephant Park for lunch. You will have the opportunity to touch and feed the Knysna Elephants, and visit either Monkeyland or Birds of Eden. We stop at the Bloukrans Bridge to view the highest bungy jump in the world, and, for those brave enough, to take the plunge.
The evening is spent in the Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma means ‘place of much water’ and you will see why! The booming breakers of the Indian Ocean relentlessly pound the rocky shore, and the temperate high forest and fynbos roll down to the sea in an unspoilt verdant.
Optional activity: The world’s highest bungy at 216m.
Accommodation: Seaside Timber Cottages
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 4 — Storms River to Addo Elephant Park
We continue along the Garden Route, stopping at Jeffrey’s Bay, one of the world’s most-famous surf spots. After lunch we travel to the Addo Elephant National Park  and go for a game drive, looking for elephants (guaranteed), lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard and a variety of antelope and other mammals.
Optional activities: Horse-riding in Addo Elephant Park (recommended!)
Accommodation: Bungalows
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 5 — Addo to Knysna
After breakfast and a morning game drive we leave this Big Five park and journey back down the Garden Route to Knysna. The day is spent relaxing, sightseeing and shopping.
Optional activities include: Sundowner cruise, kayaking, scuba-diving and much more.
Accommodation:  Guest House
Meals: Breakfast

Day 6 — Oudtshoorn
We drive inland from Knysna to the Klein Karoo Desert. Twenty-nine km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lies the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo — the Cango Caves. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations. Lost in absolute darkness, a deep stillness, a constant temperature and high humidity, it is a world of unique scenery of calcite masterpieces formed by gently dripping water.
We also visit the Cango ranch where you can be photographed with baby big cats.
Optional Activity: Ostrich farm.
Accommodation: Cottages
Meals: Breakfast

Day 7 — Cape Town
We continue along Route 62 (the world’s longest wine route) stopping at two wine estates for tasting and shopping. After lunch at a wine estate we return to Cape Town, arriving in the late afternoon.
Meals: Breakfast
